Marcela and Marcel Lesák moved to Ronov nad Doubravou in 1991 when they inherited a small farmhouse in the centre of town from Marcela’s parents. They built their family home on the garden site of the original barn. The old residential house stood unused for many years until Marcela decided to fulfil her dream of opening a small café or patisserie.
The renovation took ten years, but the effort paid off. A charming café with a nostalgic atmosphere was created, where the magic of “old times” can be felt in every corner. The café Staré časy (Old Times), located near the town square in Ronov, opened just before the COVID-19 pandemic. For two years, Marcela managed the café alongside her full-time job. Today, she is fully devoted to her dream, supported by her entire family.
Her signature item, the Koláč Staré časy, is a cake based on a recipe from her youth, perfected over the years. It’s baked and served in a round ceramic dish. The base is a dry crumb mixture topped with a cottage cheese (tvaroh) filling, flavoured with lemon or seasonal fruit. Poppy seeds and plums are also often used. The result is a rich, aromatic cake bursting with flavour.
Marcela has been using the Iron Mountains – Regional Product certification for her Koláč Staré časy since the autumn of 2024.
You can visit Kavárna Staré časy every week from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening. The current menu is shared on the café’s Facebook and Instagram profiles. The café has a cosy seating capacity of 20–25 guests and also hosts gatherings, concerts, and workshops.
